Forces of Nature: Glass art by Steven Bay
May 1 through June 30 2025. This exhibit is a journey through some of the many techniques and subjects that I have explored in my brief career as a glass maker. The exhibit title refers to the physical forces of heat, gravity, and air pressure that I use to transform glass sheet, rods, and tubes into sculptural forms reflecting nature’s beauty. Heat from a torch or kiln is used to soften the glass for shaping, and to fuse pieces together to create new shapes and patterns, such as beads, marbles, and animals. Gravity is an essential tool for shaping larger pieces of class into complex shapes, such as flowers, bowls, and even hats! Air pressure from the mouth is used to inflate a gather of glass to create delicate ornaments or graceful shapes. |
